It seems to me like we're all looking for something in ourselves. Specifically a definition. Who am I? What kind of person am I? What am I capable of? What do I desire? You know...that kind of stuff.
I wonder how much of a lost cause this is. I mean is there really a fixed definition of who we are? Isn't it always changing? Seems to me that as soon as we figure out who we are today we realize that it's just who we used to be. Who we are now is something we have to figure out tomorrow only to realize once getting there that those are just the headlines of yesterday.
Maybe the answer isn't in finding out who we are (or who we used to be) but in not caring who we are or who other people think we are and just being what we wind up being.
Easier said than done I suppose.

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
Oscar Wilde
(is it ironic that i used a quote) due to my own personal issues with this topic...i really don't have much to say, but i thought the quote was fitting. but i will say that due to some thought provoking conversations with..someone.. and 'personal reflection' soon i think i may be able to be uncompromisingly me.
(i don't know if uncompromisingly is a word)
i hear there is a good concert friday night :), if you would want to go
Nice quote. That's acutally another slant I was concidering taking on this post.
We're just a cut and paste project.
Don't you mean you'll be able to be uncompromisingly a bunch of other people put together?
I only really like a few of Sufjan's stuff (of what I like I really like though). I haven't given him enough time to grow on me though. So if it wasn't for my second reason I'd consider going.
Second reason: I'm planning on going on a backpacking trip next weekend which will take some scratch. I've been getting some extra stuff I hadn't planned on getting. So I'm keeping a close eye on my tin wallet.
ps - Uncompromisingly is a word. But what do I know...I watch TV.
ahh yes, the infamous tin wallet. but we might have to change the fact that sufjan hasn't grown on you. (i think i'm making myself out to be more of a fan than what i really am..._)
kate.
oh, by the way, i have a sticker for you...i think you'll appreciate it
i have one too, it will go on my un-nalgene (sorry for having so many comments, i need to think before i publish)
It's been said that we are not what/who we are or what/who others think we are but we are who/what we think others thinks we are.
This topic hits close to home these days...
interesting thoughts, as always, thanks for sharing...
Very true.
It’s ironic, what drives us on the surface is our desires to be what others want us to be but in the end we’re all byproducts of our own imaginations.
